Upgrade of Atherton Columbarium
Lions Club of Atherton, with the assistance of two local community members, recently carried out a well overdue upgrade of the Columbarium at the Atherton Cemetery.
The Columbarium was built by the Club back in 1987, under the chairmanship of Lion Alan Scott and was completed in November of that year with the assistance of local tradesmen donating both materials and their time. Most of the work was conducted over weekends, with Lions Club members themselves putting in a total of 1200 hours towards the completion of the project.
Now, thirty years later, the upgrade has been possible with the generous help of Roy Walker and Roy Phelps who donated materials and their time. A new plaque has been added to the outside wall of the Columbarium by the Lions Club of Atherton and Tablelands Regional Council has agreed to clean up and repaint the ceilings to complete the upgrade.
